Referee Training Sponsored by NYSA
In 2009, NYSA is hosting USSF Standard Referee classes (Grade 8). Dates to be advised but the first Level 8 course will be in March 2009.
In addition we will again hold a Recreational Referee (R9) class. The R9 class is designed for beginning referees who want to center recreational teams who are U14 and younger as well as performing as an assistant referee in competitive team play (Division 1 and 3) U14 and younger. The class is shorter and more practical.
There will also be a refresher course this year - (you need to do 5 hours every year)
From Passing the Test to Blowing the Whistle
It is one thing to learn the Laws of the Game and to pass the written USSF test. It is quite another to set foot on the field and blow the whistle!
NYSA provides mentoring assistance to first time referees. First assignments will be to the younger ages in the NYSA Recreation League.
Refresher Classes
Please be aware that USSF requires all referees to obtain 5 hours of refresher training annually.
Besides being a requirement, it is in your best interests to be up to date with current interpretations/amendments to the Laws of The Game. NYSA will use the refresher rosters when considering referee assignments.
There is no charge, either to NYSA referees or non-NYSA referees, for this class. However the courses for 2008 have already been run, so check back here in 2009 for details of next years courses.
