    NOVATO YOUTH SOCCER

    OPENING DAY -AUGUST 29, 2009

    Good Afternoon Coaches! 

     

    With school starting this week, I imagine you are receiving a lot of questions about Opening Day. For those of you who attended the coaches meeting last month, this is just a reminder. For those of you who weren't able to make it, this may be new information to you. We will have an Opening Day Paradebeginning at 9 a.m. on August 29th. You will receive a flyer about this parade you can pass along to your parent group over the next day or two. Please Note: We are asking each soccer team to designate a volunteer parent to help out with the parade and other Opening Day activities. Please send the name and contact information of your team's parent volunteer to your age group coordinator.

     

    • All teams, regardless of age, will be required to ride in a truck in the parade. This is intended to speed up the parade and reduce the impact on downtown Novato businesses. Please make sure you have a volunteer with a truck to safely drive your team down Grant Avenue.
    • The parade will start at Grant and Railroad. Your team will be asked to report to Railroad Ave. between 8 a.m. -9 a.m. to load up your truck and fly your team banner. Decorations are encouraged!
    • The parade will end at Our Lady of Loretto. Trucks will turn from Grant onto Virginia Ave. and be directed into the parking lot at OLL. Volunteers will be on hand to make sure all of the children are safe and to avoid traffic congestion.
    • Parents will not be allowed to park at Our Lady of Loretto. Parents should find a spot to park nearby and walk into OLL to retrieve their players.

    Teams are prohibited from throwing anything, including candy, water balloons and streamers, from their trucks. This is to reduce our trash impact on downtown Novato. 

     

     

    U6 teams will play their first games at Indian Valley College. Most U6-U8 teams will have their team photos taken at IVC at the same time. The first annual Fun Fest, will take place at the same time at IVC where players will be able to participate in fun activities at no charge. Food and drink will also be available for purchase. Though activities will be tailored for U6-U8 players, all NYSA players and families are invited to Fun Fest to watch the first games and enjoy the daysactivities.  

     

    U7 and above divisions will play their Opening Day games at other school fields. The schedule of games will be posted today. The schedule can be located on League Frontier. Open up your team page, hit the "schedule" button and your team's schedule will open up.  

      

     

    The schedule for those divisions that will play interleague (U12 and higher) will follow at a later time. Teams playing interleague will have Opening Day scrimmages in Novato on August 29th, but your official season will start the second week of September.
